Year 11
Keeping options open and exploring pathways
Students continue to explore the many future possibilities and opportunities available to them in learning and work that relate to their strengths, interests, and values.
It can be challenging to get classroom time to deliver modules, but this can be delivered in core subjects like English and Science. Homeroom or Ako times can be used to deliver career education programmes. Study skills and understanding NCEA are important topics in Year 11 and can form part of the career programme.
Subjection Selection is a key event in Year 11 as students decide subjects for Year 12 and 13. Students, families, and whanau need support to ensure students are choosing subjects based on researched information about their career options. CV Writing and Research Level 1 Unit Standards can be delivered.
Decide and Prepare is a Career NZ resource that helps students in years 11-13 to make choices about tertiary education and work and prepare for the transition from secondary school.
It has been designed to develop the career management competencies students need to make career-related decisions as they transition to further learning and work. It includes – understand the tertiary options and the job market, planning a pathway, and preparing a CV and job search skills.
